Though it was a week ago already that I attended Pre-OCS, it seems like just yesterday. For those of you wondering what Pre-OCS is, it was a two and a half day event that was meant to give 27 candidates including myself a taste of what Marine Corps Officer Candidate School will be like. Over the course of the weekend we were given crash courses in land navigation, small unit tactics, how to give and receive operation orders, and much more. After taking classes in the new skills, we then put them to practical applications to demonstrate what we had learned. They also PTed the hell out of us. So I was sitting in class and someone next to me said "Hey Patrick what are you going to do when schools over?" I said "Go to College and probably join the military." Then all of a sudden several people around me say why in the hell would you do that? You would have to give up your life and do what your told to do and be around a bunch of people who couldnt get real jobs. I was amazed by the reaction I got. When did the military become this terrible place where nothing good could happen?
